About Me

My name is Amy. I am a former early childhood educator, and I worked in the field for quite some time now. I obtained two associate degrees in related fields, as well as a bachelor's degree with honors.

After graduating, I took a break from school and decided to spend all my waking energy with my son Connor (who then just turned a year). In September of 2010, while pregnant with my second son I decided to start a home daycare. That lasted a few months, when I decided that it wasn't for me. However, from this experience I realized my heart is truly in the classroom, and I will never be satisfied doing any other career then being a teacher (and a mommy of course)!

Currently, I am a mother of two boys that are two years apart! I watch another little boy in my home a few days a week. Everyday we do age appropriate activities that you would find going on in a preschool classroom.

Which is what this blog has become! Things that go on in Miss Amy's House!

I am not a crazy expert, I don't know it all, I am not a super mom, or any other crazy thing. I am just a mom with a passion for this kind of stuff, a little knowledge, and an urge to share to help other moms/ teachers! :D

My Philosophy:

I believe that young children should not be doing worksheets, flashcards, or forced to learn. I believe all learning should take place through play/ age appropriate activities. I believe parents/ educators should create opportunities for the children to explore academic areas, and they should be guided through the play. From these guided play times "teachable moments" will arise, and that is when concepts should be taught! I feel the child's environment should be set up as a place to learn, and allow children to excel socially, emotionally, academically, and physically!
